Canadian Winger Eden Bretzer Returns to San Antonio For 2022

San Antonio Athenians SC is excited to welcome back one of the most exciting members of the 2021 squad, Canadian winger Eden Bretzer.
Technical Director Leland Hammonds mentioned how re-signing Bretzer was a priority in building the 2022 roster: “She was a huge part of last season’s success and I’m confident she will take it to another level this summer. Eden has elite, power 5 college athleticism and we can’t wait to work with her again.”
Eden hails from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She represented Alberta in the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games, winning a gold medal with the team. Eden was a member of Canada Soccer’s Women’s National EXCEL Program from 2018 until 2020 where she worked with some of the top coaches in the country to improve her game, eventually earning a call up to the Canada U17 Youth National Team for a pair of international friendlies in Mexico in 2019.
After joining the Athenians for the 2021 season, Eden quickly became one of the young stars of UWS. With 12 appearances and 7 starts in UWS play, the Canadian winger was a consistent presence in the Athenians attack, using her athleticism and creativity to create danger. The highlight of her season came in the away fixture against CTX Hornets when she came on at halftime and recorded a hat trick in the second 45, the only hat trick of the Athenians season! In addition to the 4 goals, she assisted 5, including Emma Durain’s winner in the Regional semifinal.
Bretzer joins Helene Farris, Olivia Wright, Ashley Newland, and Mia Wildeman as a returner from the 2021 UWS Southwest Championship team, with Emma Bates also recently named a new player for the upcoming season. Stay tuned to sanantonioathenians.com and the club’s social media for further player announcement as the 2022 season is fast approaching!
