Former Big 12 and Pac 12 Standout Enzi Broussard named to Athenians 2022 Roster

San Antonio, Texas - San Antonio Athenians SC have named winger Enzi Broussard to the 2022 UWS Roster pending league approval. Broussard joins after three standout seasons at the NCAA Division 1 level, with West Virginia in 2019 and 2020 and Washington State in 2021.

Athenians Technical Director Leland Hammonds explained that when Broussard’s name came across his desk, he knew immediately she would be a part of the squad: “Enzi has the pedigree to be a top player in our league and after seeing her resume and watching video, we knew she was going to play a big part in what we’re building for 2022.”

Originally from Dallas, Broussard developed her game at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy at the IMG Academy where she was twice named the league’s best Offensive Player, earning Player of the Year honors in 2017-18. with 27 goals in 24 games. Coming out of high school, Broussard was a 4 star national recruit and ended up at West Virginia University, where she quickly locked down a starting spot. In her two seasons with West Virginia, one of which was the 2020 COVID-shortened season, Broussard totaled 30 appearances, 22 starts, 5 goals and 4 assists for a program frequently in the national top 25 ranking.

Following the 2020-21 season with WVU, Broussard swapped coasts to play for the Cougars of Washington State University, where she was a fixture in the XI when available, totaling 13 appearances, 12 starts, 3 goals and 5 assists. The Cougars finished the season 14-3-4, losing in the second round of the NCAA tournament 2-0 to Tennessee after dispatching Montana 3-0 in the opening round.

Broussard is the 7th announced member of the Athenians 2022 squad, joining local standouts Helene Farris, Olivia Wright, and Mia Wildeman, as well as returners Eden Bretzer and Ashley Newland, and midfielder Emma Bates. This year’s squad will look to defend the UWS Southwest title won by the team for the first time in 2021.
