San Antonio, TX (April 26th, 2022) - The Athenians have re-signed Jade Piper for the 2022 UWS season after playing a big role in the Athenians 2021 championship season.

Bringing Piper back was always a priority for Technical Director Leland Hammonds: “Jade was one of the most exciting players in the league last season and she showed well in our exhibitions with America Femenil and Houston Dash. We’re excited to help her develop further this season and advance in her career.”

Piper expressed her gratitude to be back with the club: “I’m excited that I get the privilege of playing with the Athenian’s again this season. Being invited back is an honor. I look forward to representing the club and seeing what we accomplish this summer.”

Piper made 12 appearances in UWS last season, scoring once against Bat Country in a 4-0 win and adding an assist as well. Prior to joining the Athenians, the Corpus Christi native spent 4 seasons at the University of the Incarnate Word. She made 63 career appearances for the Cardinals, starting 53 games, scoring 5 goals and providing 1 assist.

The Athenians 2022 roster is beginning to take shape, with familiar faces bolstered by new additions. Mia Wildeman, Helene Farris, Olivia Wright, Eden Bretzer, Ashley Newland, and Jade Piper have been announced as returners from the 2021 UWS Southwest Championship squad, with Emma Bates, Enzi Broussard, Amanda Chimbima, and Camellia Xu set to don the Purple and White for the first time this season. After a change in ownership and a move to Soccer Central (6610 Low Bid Lane, San Antonio TX 78201), The Athenians lifted the first trophy in club history in 2021, defeating Lone Star Republic in the UWS Southwest Final 1-0.
