SAN ANTONIO TX (May 6 2022) - German Midfielder Jessi Reinhardt has been named to the Athenians 2022 roster, bringing extensive NCAA D1 and professional experience to the team. Reinhardt joins after 3 years playing for 1. SC Freiburg in her home country.
Reinhardt was identified quickly by the coaching staff at the Athenians’ open tryout in February 2022. Technical Director Leland Hammonds explained what stuck out about her game: “We immediately recognized Jessi’s quality in doing all the little things right. She is a fantastic player with off-the-charts soccer intelligence and her experience in the States and abroad will be a huge asset for the team this year.”
Hailing from Friedburg, Germany, Reinhardt grew up playing in the 1. FFC Frankfurt academy, making appearances in the first and second Frauen Bundesliga at a time of immense success for the club, who won the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2015-2016. She then made the jump abroad to play for the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights from 2015-2018, competing in the Northeast Conference of NCAA division 1. She was a 3-time all conference 1st team selection in her collegiate career, finishing with 78 appearances, 19 goals, and a Knights’ record 31 assists.
After college, Reinhardt returned to Germany to play for 1. SC Freiburg and in the 2019 season put up an impressive 9 goals and 12 assists in just 15 games.
The Athenians 2022 roster is beginning to take shape, with familiar faces bolstered by new additions. Mia Wildeman, Helene Farris, Olivia Wright, Eden Bretzer, Ashley Newland, and Jade Piper have been announced as returners from the 2021 UWS Southwest Championship squad, with Emma Bates, Enzi Broussard, Amanda Chimbima, Camellia Xu, and Jessi Reinhardt set to don the Purple and White for the first time this season.
